Gretchen Beer grew up in Union Grove, Wisconsin, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota before attending medical school in Kansas City. After several years practicing in a large Twin Cities health system, she is excited to join Edina Sports + Family Medicine, where she values the collaborative environment and focus on work–life balance. Dr. Beer felt called to family medicine for its depth and breadth and the opportunity to care for patients of all backgrounds, from children to older adults, with each day bringing something new.

A special interest in diabetes care is inspired by a family member with Type 1 diabetes. Dr. Beer also enjoys caring for young women and providing comprehensive support that includes women’s health, mental health, and preventive care. She believes that taking the time to ensure a patient feels comfortable can make a meaningful difference.

“I’m deeply invested in getting to know my patients as people first,” she says. “Everyday stressors, home and family all factor into someone’s healthcare. Building relationships with my patients —and sometimes even their families—is what makes this work so meaningful to me.”

Outside of medicine, Dr. Beer enjoys traveling with her husband and son, visiting the dog park with their two dogs, trying new foods and reading.
